Marine Weather Forecasts
Welcome to our Global marine wind forecast. You can select other marine forecast parameters in the Parameter selector in the menu to the left. The following parameters are available for this region:
Wind, significant wave height, wave period, wind wave period, air temperature, visibility, vessel icing, surface pressure, precipitation, relative humidity and cloud cover.
Or you can use the small map to the left to zoom into the area you are interested in marine weather forecasts from.
When you have reached an appropriate zoom level you can for example use the "Plot type" selector to choose between Point Weather forecasts (forecasts at a specific location that you select) or Route Weather forecasts (forecasts along sailing routes) within the region that you have currently selected. When you have done that you can find more instructions below the figure to the right.
Javascript is either not enabled or not supported by your browser. You will therefore only be able to use a reduced version World Wild Weather marine forecast services.

Recent events
- 2010-01-15: Still working on solving the memory issues. I have now also temporarily disabled a lot of the subregions and timezones. They will be turned on again as soon as the memory issues are solved.
- 2010-01-08: Turned out that there are two problems. One is memory leak while the other is a problem with excessive caching of the weather forecasts. The second problem has now been fixed but the memory leak has still not been corrected (although I have made some progress on that as well).
- 2010-01-04: The service has been somewhat unstable during the previous months. The instability is caused by to much memory usage by the application. This happens due to something technically called a memory leak. This leak is currently being investigated but it might take a while before it is fixed. To reduce the instability during this investigation the ocean temperature, salinity, currents, and sea level forecasts have therefore been temporarily removed. Furthermore the regional wave forecasts for the Eastern North Pacific, Alaskan Waters, and the Western North Atlantic have temporarily been replaced by a global wave forecast. These changes will free up a large amount of memory which will alleviate the problem until it is properly fixed.
- 2009-06-15: Added Weather Application Programming Interface. This lets you access weather forecasts programmatically.
Our Forecasts
Forecasted surface currents in the Caribbean. The Gulf Stream is clearly seen along the east coast of the USA. The marine forecast is based on state-of-the-art ocean forecast models from NOAA.
With World Wild Weather you will gain access to accurate personalized marine forecasts. You can use our forecast system to eliminate redundant information and only present present the information that you are interested in. This means that you get more accurate and specific weather information and spend less time figuring out what impact the weather has on you.
Route Weather
Route Weather is a new and user friendly way to provide weather forecasts along a route that you plan to follow. This means that the information that you need is condensed to exactly the weather that you experience. It is therefore quick and easy to get an overview of the weather along your planned route. An additional advantage is that our processing of the forecast will result in a very accurate forecast since it it processed to fit your exact location.

Point Weather
Forecasted significant wave height at a position in the Gulf of Alaska. The significant wave height is the average wave height that a trained observer will see. The upper plot shows the wave height while the middle and lower plots show the main wave direction using arrows and degrees from True North. The wave forecast is based on the excellent wave forecasting model WaveWatch III from NOAA.
With our Point Weather service you can get a weather forecast at a specific geographical position. This is a useful feature for many weather users. Surfers can get a surf forecast at their surfing site, fishermen can get a forecast at their fishing sites, sailors can use this simpler service whenever they are not travelling long distances and the offshore industry will find it useful as well. The advantage of Point Weather is that it presents data in the same horizontal and temporal resolution as the actual weather forecasts. This means that you will be able to get a forecast that is very close to your actual position. This in turn will improve the accuracy of the forecast.

Beta test
World Wild Weather is in beta testing. This means that we will not provide any guarantees against service downtime. During the beta testing we will update the web site regularly based on the feedback and information we get from users. We will also update the code behind the web site. These updates will of course be tested before implemented into the web site but occasionally errors might slip through anyways. When the site goes into full production mode much more rigorous procedures will be used to ensure service stability.
